Cruel Summer Album Review

The GOOD Music compilation has been highly anticipated since the announcement was made that the Kanye Led team of arguably the most diverse and talented group of MC’s in the Hip-Hop game. The album leaked on September 13th and I was quick to scoop it up. So here’s a breakdown track by track

.

‘To The World’ (Feat. Kanye West and R. Kelly)- The album starts off with a bold intro that will make you want to get up and start running up a fleet of stairs like rocky to claim your stance as King Of The World with the first lines being R. kelly telling listeners to “Put your fingers to the world” while kanye comes in later with his boastful raps on a smooth flow getting a bit political in his vee saying “mitt romney don’t pay no tax, mitt romney don’t pay no tax”.

Clique’ (Feat. Big Sean, Kanye West and Jay-Z)- The song up next is CLIQUE with Big Sean, Kanye and the man himself hovy hov Jay Z . The song is done on a dope beat by Hit-Boy, jay Z lets us know everything he touches turns to gold  Yeah, I’m talking ‘Ye / Yeah, I’m talking Rih / Yeah, I’m talking B / Nigga, I’m talking me / Yeah, I’m talking bossy, I ain’t talking Kelis / Your money too short, you can’t be talking to me,”. Ain’t nobody f**king with this clique fo sho

Mercy’ (Feat. Big Sean, Pusha T, Kanye West and 2 Chainz)- Mercy is undoubtedly one of the biggest hits for the summer with a sample from an old jamaican song. If you don’t know this song you probably don’t own a radio, or computer, or phone or any device that can play music. People give the best verse to 2 chainz but I think Pusha T killed it.

‘New God Flow’ (Feat. Pusha T, Kanye West and Ghostface Killah)- New God Flow...New MotherF**king God Flow!! This is by far the best track on the album in my eyes. Pusha T has been on the rise since signing with the GOOD music camp and is in serious extreme super sayin rap mode as he spits what may be the best verse on the album stating “They Love a nigga spirit like pac at the coachella!” while taking a fewshots at the bubble gum rap group YMCMB “what’s a circus without you clown niggas” agreed. Kanye gets it going with his extra long verse and some nice lines like “picture working so hard and you can’t cut through, that can mess up your whole life like an uncle that touched you” yes it can Kanye, yes it can. The surprise of the song is as kanye’s verse ends the song goes off in chilling instrumentals to introduce none other than Ghostface Killa coming in spitting OG raps, Wu-Tang in the house bitches.

The Morning’ (Feat. Raekwon, Common, Pusha T, 2 Chainz, CyHi da Prynce, Kid Cudi, Kanye West and D’banj)- The Morning is basically a song that aims to dismiss all the half-retarded illuminati rumors circling around almost any successful artiste (hardwork = success dumbasses) it starts off with another sample from the land that converted snoop dogg in to snoop lion (Jamaica!). Another Wu-Tang Clan member starts off this one making the world know that his crew is ‘the mark zuckerbergs of the block”. Common spits an ok then Pusha T comes in and Kills everything as usual, signing to GOOD has made him great. A short change of tone with KiD CuDi’s ever groovy melodies enters and Kanye ends the song saying “made something from nothing”

‘Cold’ (Feat. Kanye West and DJ Khaled)- “Flyer than a parakeet, floatin with no parachute, $6000 pair of shoes, we made it to the paris news!” Way Too Cold is next up as kanye spits a nice rap about how he’ll embarrass you and how he fell in love with kim and her phat ass. a very nice ass I’d also like to add. Why is Khaled on this???annoying little thing isn’t he.

Higher’ (Featuring Pusha T, The-Dream, Ma$e and Cocaine 80s)- Higher is up next, the song starts off with The dream kinda almost messing the album until pusha t comes in and saves the day with a very smooth flow, all in all this song can be skipped. Oh it also has Mase in it.

‘Sin City’ (Feat. John Legend, Teyana Taylor, CyHi The Prynce, Malik Yusef and Travi$ Scott)- Sin City seems to be more of an interlude more than an actual song It’s a cautionary tale about the dangers of engaging in the street life, with a creepy ending saying how many people have become citizens of “Sin City” despite them knowing its downfalls (going to jail/death/hell).

‘The One’ (Feat. Kanye West, Big Sean, 2 Chainz, Marsha Ambrosius and Cocaine 80s)- The One: A standout on the album — Kanye, Big Sean and 2 Chainz rap celebratory rhymes about being rich and mindful of the “snakes in the grass.” Yeezy has the best verse on the song: “I’m the one, baby / Yeah, I’m the one, baby / Since God gave his only begotten son, baby / It’s hard preachin’ the gospel to the slums lately / So I had to put the church on the drums, baby.”

‘Creepers’ (Feat. Kid Cudi)- Next up is KiD CuDi with an upbeat song that makes you wanna jump around and starting dancing with random people in the street, very nice melodies as CuDi encounters his demons saying “working for inner peace, fighting for my soul” whenever you want a song to relate to when you're down CuDi is the man to go to. He doesn’t disappoint with this one as I’m replaying it right now and bobbing my head as I’m writing this sentence “I’m just doing ma thang if you know what I mean!”

‘Bliss’ (Feat. John Legend & Teyana Taylor)- The only R&B-flavored tune on the album. It’s an empowering song about overcoming obstacles to achieve your dreams. Legend and Teyana sound great together. Hopefully, we will hear more soulful duets from these two artists

‘Don’t Like (Remix)’ (Feat. Pusha T, Kanye West, Big Sean, Chief Keef and Jadakiss)- “Fraud niggas!Ya’ll niggas! That that shit i don’t like!” the GOOD music remix to Chief Keef’s “I don’t like” which is 1000000 times better than that crap. This song was one of the singles leading up to the GOOD Music album release and is definitely a club banger. Standout being Pusha T and Big Sean, The album ends with a “bang-bang”.

Overall a great album done by a great group of talent lead by a great musical mind. Every song on the album leads beautifully into the next with no fillers like many other hip-hop crew compilations that have failed to live up to expectations such a Young Money, MMG and the rest.

I give it a 9/10 only because it didn’t have more CuDi.
